Doesn't load after reboot
Published on February 1, 2008 By tasospa In WindowBlinds

I have installed and uninstalled WindowBlinds 6.02 at least 6 times. I have even removed my antivirus program (NOD32). After removing NOD32 WindowsBlinds stopped asking for a reboot so I assumed it was ok, but it's not. I select the style I want and I apply it but after the reboot my style is not active and I have the classic grey windows style. What I have noticed is that WBInstall32 is still being executed on every boot in my windows startup file. Is there anything I can do to get it working because it's the second program that doesn't work from the package. WindowFX doesn't work after the reboot either! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here are my computer specs from the WindowBlinds window:

Don't have an answer for your problem ... sorry! I just wanted to "pile on." I started having the same problem too. I've un-installed/re-installed several times now. The last time I re-installed WB 5, and it loaded. However, once I installed WB6, no joy. Mine seems to load everything except the window frames. Hopefully, an expert can speak to this soon! Cheers, kbt

Don't know if this will work but, sometimes I've gotten things kick started when stuck by doing the following. Select Windows Classic as your default theme in WB Config. Close WB and right click on WB Icon in system tray and select Unload WB. Reboot and then try reloading WB with your theme (make sure you wait until everything is loaded during your startup processes before trying to reload WB). Might work.

And rather than uninstalling your anti virus just disable it when your installing Windowblinds. Sometimes anti virus apps mess things up when installing certain software.

Your problem might be not the same so the best is to make an other post in your own and copy past your system informations like the operator of this post.

tasospa: you can try the reply #2 but if it's still the same you should do the following things:

1) Uninstall WB (again) then Reboot
2) Resinstall WB trought stardock central then reboot (it's really important to reboot after each install/uninstall)
3) Repost your System information here.

Thanks for the idea but that's what I did, several times... I also tried disabling NOD32 but when I say that it didn't solve my problem that's when I uninstalled it. I even removed all the leftover NOD32 and WindowBlinds files and registry entries manually after uninstalling them. I did manage to get WindowBlinds V4.5 working on my pc. Versions 5 and 6 never load after the reboot! The pc has a fresh installation of Windows, about 4-5 days before installing WindowBlinds, so there isn't much junk in the pc. I still only have my basic programs installed (Windows-Office-AntiVirus).

I just submitted a ticket. After reading all the problems with WindowBlinds in the forum I really doubt though that they will be able to help... I just hope I didn't waste my money on the bundle. So far only Bootskins and Logons work and WindowBlinds V4.5 (with a few glitches here and there). (

I run XP and have never had a problem like you describe. It is an interesting one. Got me baffled. I have run all versions of windowblinds right back beyond 4.6 on this computer and right up to version six without a ripple of a problem. I have always used Zone Alarm for a firewall and anti virus. My only hunch is that maybe NOD 32 is conflicting with it. Download a free version of another Anti virus and firewall and see if it makes a difference. I do know that some MS Updates have interfered with the running of some of my other programmes. I use Autopatcher disks to load and select security patches and do not use the updates anymore. My computer has run a lot smoother since I cut the updates out and I can now use ALL apps. The hackers have turned their heads to Vista now. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

I'm pretty sure that the problem is not NOD in this case because, like I said in an earlier post, I had removed NOD completely (Program Files-Common Files-Doc's&Settings-Registry) and I don't use any firewall other that the MS firewall. Thanks for the info though. You are one of the lucky ones I guess if you haven't gotten any problems.

It's those ATI drivers - if you can't get an updated driver to work try and see if you can roll back to an earlier one. That don't work then don't use WB6 - go back to 5

My ATI driver should be up to date. It's only been about 2 weeks since I formated my pc. I also have a problem with WB5. Same problem. Installs...after reboot I open the program and set a theme...reboot the system and everything is set to classic windows and the icon doesn't load on my taskbar! I want WB6 for the theme Molten. I'm trying to make a dragon/fantasy style on my pc and the animated dragon in the Molten theme is great but it doesn't work on WB4 that runs on my pc.

I've got the same video card and I run the Omega Drivers due to some issues I had a few versions back. It really might be the driveers.
